On the 11th and 12th of January 2017, representatives of more than 20 German enterprises gathered in the city of Taizhou and unveiled the powerful potential of this hidden champion. Located on the coast side of Zhejiang Province, Taizhou is part of the booming Yangtze River Delta Region and benefits from a great infrastructure and other locational advantages.
When for most Germans or even Chinese, the name Taizhou seems to be relatively unknown, the city has been by far more than just a sleeping giant. Taizhou is home to one of the most successful car manufacturers. Geely Auto is the company that acquired Volvo in 2010 and currently, there are already 18 German companies in Taizhou. Metro, Henkel, Continental and Eberspächer are some of them.
As the keynote speaker of this conference, H&A had the honour of inviting Dr Verheugen, the former vice-president of the EU commission. Verheugen met with the mayor of Taizhou upon his arrival and also had talks over bilateral relations with the vice-governor of Zhejiang. He encouraged German companies and especially SME’s to open themselves and to cooperate with their Chinese counterparts. Verheugen also emphasized that respect and harmony are essential key requirements for successful partnerships. Verheugen mentioned that in times of great geopolitical changes, it is to expect the worst but also crucial to hope for the best.
Other VIP guests included Ms Liang Liming, the Vice-Governor of Zhejiang and Mr Beißert, the Deputy Consulate General in the German General Consulate in Shanghai.
Furthermore, many German organizations attended the conference, including GTAI, the AHK, State of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg International and the European Buyers Council. We had also the pleasure to welcome representatives of well-renowned firms like Osram, Remondis and Vaillant to Taizhou. Most of them also joined our company matchmaking event to establish close ties with their new customers and cooperation partners. Judging from the comments of those who attended, the conference and the matchmaking were very successful.
Another highlight of this event was the opening of a Sino-German Industrial Park.
Great interest has been shown for Taizhou and we are looking forward to further projects with the more than cooperative city government.
